Research

Summary

I am an Educational Researcher from India, focused on Active Citizenship Education, Civic Engagement, and Community Service-Learning. In addition to running my own ventures, I could contribute to the large-scale schools-focused educational interventions on Democratic Values for around 67000 primary schools. I successfully deployed high technology solutions for developing game-based educational platforms imparting 21st Century skills to young children. I have designed and executed a state-level evaluation of educational programs and also published my educational research work in international

I have a rich interdisciplinary academic background which spans domains like Education, Research, Science and Technology. Before doing my second Master's in Education from Azim Premji University, Bangalore, I completed a Master's in Computer Application and BSc in Physics. Even though after 15 years of experience, I am completely focused on Education currently, this transition was not sudden, as I started contributing to Education for the underprivileged through my Charity in 2007 alongside my career in Technology. My educational products and games are still serving their purpose and I contribute to EdTech at the solution design level as my passion.

Areas of research

I am an Educational Researcher and have good experience with the Indian public and private school education system. My research is generally focused on Social-Sensibility, Civic Awareness, and Civic Mindedness.

I am interested in exploring the pedagogical interventions for students to become Active citizens and taking responsibility for their immediate social issues at the appropriate age. I have worked on pedagogies like Service-Learning, Activity-based Learning, Project-based Learning, Problem-based Learning, Community-based Learning and Place-based Learning.

Understanding international perspectives on Citizenship Education: Sustainable Development Goal 4.7 clearly articulates, ‘by 2030 ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, …, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development. Therefore, I would like to understand the educational domains like Global Citizenship, Citizenship Education, Active Citizenship and continue contributing to large-scale programs in India over the long run.

Pedagogy for Citizenship Education: Mulyavardhan program suggests pedagogies based on cooperative learning principles. I have a membership of the 'International Association for the Study of Co-operation in Education'. I'll continue with the research on similar Pedagogies like Cooperative Learning, Service Learning.

Citizenship Curriculum integration: Mulyavardhan has developed its curriculum. There are different approaches for implementation of such curriculum like merging democratic values in the current curricular subjects, introducing it as a separate subject, creating out of the classroom opportunities, or influencing adults to practice this(Coster & Sigalas, 2017). India has used all these approaches at different points in time. I realized that there are no studies commenting on the effectiveness of these approaches in the Indian context, which will be my next research.

Establishing international measurements for Citizenship Education in India: Recently, I got an opportunity to read the research conducted under ICCS. It compares the different countries' Citizenship related understanding by accommodating the culture, teacher background and school system context (Schulz, Ainley, Fraillon, Losito, & Agrusti, 2016). I would like to contribute as a researcher by establishing the measurements, comparing findings with different countries and influencing policy decisions.
