Management Style

Leadership is developing a shared vision and guiding, mentoring, or influencing people to move towards a common goal. I was leading the teams and motivating them to achieve the desired outcomes. I am more inclined towards the democratic leadership and believes in participation from my groups. At the same time, I am an adaptive leader who can change according to the requirements of the project, external situations, and people to manage. I am not an authoritative leader but positively assertive whenever required.

I am a team player who has handled teams as large as 100+ members and very well understands the importance of collaboration. During my last position as Sr. Program Manager, I was part of the leadership team of the organisation. Additionally, a group of 30 implementors were directly reporting to me, and I was also dealing with 35 master trainers. I am remembered in each of the ex-organisation because the contribution from every individual was recognized. I made sure that people give importance to the team, and work towards the interest of the organisation. Therefore, team members learned from each other, and I never had to force for the internal capacity building.

I have extensively worked with the international teams based out of USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore, and Russia. Apart from that, I have traveled to Singapore, Hong Kong and the USA for the official purpose. It is easier for me to work with people coming from various social-cultural background. After working in rural, urban and tribal regions, it is easier for me to connect with people coming from any context. As a manager, I have always believed in the inclusive environment which respects the ethnic differences.

I have handled key responsibilities in various organisations, and have found active listening and effective communication are critical success factors while serving at such senior managerial positions. I believe communication is not just about listening and speaking but interpreting and decoding. In a professional context, proactive communication and responsible sharing have given me an upper edge over others.

I am trained on the Project Management Institutes (PMI) proposed Project and Program management standards. But I use to customize those most of the time depending on the project environment, client expectations and given constraints. Specifically, while working with the government and non-profit, a lot of roles-overlap is observed, which makes it challenging to execute the process as it is. In the fast-paced environment like a start-up and short duration projects, I prefer iterative Agile methodology and daily quick stand-ups.

Apart from professional experience, I have worked as the Students' Council member at Azim Premji University and represented the dynamic student body at the University. I was approachable to all the students and was always eager to address their concerns. I was diplomatic enough not let interest groups drive everything. Instead, I always decided for the larger good. I was heading the placements, and I could focus a lot on the team capacity building. I always request team members to prepare their growth path and revisiting it periodically. It is managers responsibility to support teams in achieving those personal plans in addition to organisational goals.
